
Illustration of the method used to calculate 3D reconstructions here. (a) represents a cubic section of the Z-band. In the electron microscope, a view down Y, gives the [10] projection in (b). By tilting the sample about the Z-axis, different projection views are obtained. These are combined in a computer and used to calculate the 3D reconstruction by Fourier or back-projection (tomographic) methods.
